I should've mentioned, these are not going to be our ranks here.
These are for a separate project.

It's actually dark blue:

I liked it best because it's most complete.
But there is one thing not in it that's in the other two sets.

It's actually dark blue:
Even though expanded, I still see it as being a violet (near blue, but not quite) and purple (the lighter color) image.
Not that it makes any difference how I perceive it :P

Or...set 3 is an expanded version of sets 1 & 2.

What does the little T in the third set stand for?

What does the little T in the third set stand for?
Technical or technician.

Or...set 3 is an expanded version of sets 1 & 2.But there is one thing not in it that's in the other two sets.
That next-to-last symbol on set 1 and set 2 has no obvious parallel in set 3.
What's it supposed to mean?
Does it have a "non-obvious parallel" in set 3?
BTW: I like the colors of Set 1 best. I'd choose Set 3 over Set 1 because of the additional symbols.
If you had a "set 4" that consisted of all the symbols in Set 1 and Set 3, in the colors of Set 1, that would be my favorite.

But the ranks that include a "T" are extensions of there counterparts immediately to the right of them, so, your original statement "I liked it best because it's most complete." is far from accurate.

I like the third set better than the other two, partly due to color but also the subtle design differences.

What is that next-to-rightmost symbol in sets 1 and 2?
