Star Trek Langs
This idea was started on another board. I opened a board for the creation and discussion of languages for Star Trek. I thought it would be a good idea to open a board instead of cluttering up other boards with Star trek languages, especially because I know that not everyone wants to read about them. Anyone interested is invited to come and join! I have started a Trill language, so come and take a look! http://linguacode.proboards53.com/

Actually, I consider myself somewhat of a "Trekker", and would love to see you post your lang here, as well as discuss any other Trek-lang related topics you might want to discuss. Depending on the level of interest, there may be room for a dedicated "Trek-langs" forum in the future.

I have always been a fan of the Trill, and it didn't help that both Jadzia and Ezri were very attractive. That and the Symbionts are keen. Trill Language Trill, or Thälä’äti, is the main language of Trillius Prime. It is spoken by the entire population of the planet, though in some places the pronunciation may change. Standard Trill is spoken with a flat tone, that is, without a stress pattern. Trill also has hundreds if not thousands of little particles that enhance the spoken language. These sometimes prove difficult for would be learners to master, especially because some of these particles have different meaning from one area to anothe, though speaking without them isn’t a problemme (you may, however, sound a bit dry and emotionless). This can help to identify where someone is from to a native speaker though. In literary Trill these particles are not used, making it very easy for those who have not mastered them to still read, write and understand literary Trill. Alphabet Vowels Short: a o u i e ä ö ü a O M i E { 3 y Long: aa oo uu ii ee ää öö üü a: o: M: i: e: {: 3: y: Consonants p b ph bh m w p b p\ B F w s z ts dz sh zh ch j s z ts dz S_h Z_h tS_h dZ_h t d th dh t_d d_d T D n ng n N k g h q ' k g H\ q ? r l y rh lh 4 l_d j 4_h K (Oddly enough, Trill contains no trills) Some Trill names in Linguacode and their original Trill Dax - Daaqs Jadzia - Jadziia Ezri - Ezri Curzon - Qöö-Zon Some notes on the Trill (These are totally my own!) There are two main ethnicities on Trillius Prime. The Shälää and the Dhuryaa. The Shälää are the best known throughout the Federation. They are most distinguished by their Spots that run from head to toe (Jazdia). The Dhuryaa are known for their forehead ridges (Odan).

We've added Gorn and Cardassian, both made by forum users, and both pretty nifty if I do say so myself. Here's a preview of Gorn: Gorn The Gorn language is a very strange though somewhat mesmerizing tongue. It has also proven very difficult to transliterate, though the Terrans on Cestus III have done their best. The following is the Cestus III transliteration of the Gorn tongue. VOWELS There are but three vowels in Gorn a u i @ M i CONSONANTS k g kh gh h H ' G q Q c C kkh ggh hh Hh Qq cc CC k g x G h H\ ? ?\ q qx C j\ x: G: h: H\: qx: C: j\: t ts d tsh dsh tss tssh dssh t_d ts t_-_h ts\ t_-S_-_h ts: ts\: t_-S_-_h: lh tlh th s z sh zh llh tllh tth ss zz ssh zzh K tK T s s_-_h s\ S_-_h K: tK: T: s: s_-_h: s\: S_-_h: n ng m nw nn nng nnw J N m: n_- J: N: n_-: l lw ll llw L l_- L: l_-: x xh X Click behind the hard pallet, heavy click brining the tongue all the way down from the hard pallet, dental click akin to stearing a horse or scolding a child F FF sF ssF shF sshF zhF zzhF Top teeth resting on bottom teeth force out a 'h', as before though held longer, as 'F' though force a 's' though, as before though held longer, as 'F' though force a 's\' out, as before though held longer, as 'F' though force 'S_-_h' out, as before though held longer TONE All Gorn words have a tone, shown on the first vowel. Words without vowels will show the tone before the word. Tones are indicated with either an accute accent (high toned word) or a grave accent (low toned word). EXAMPLES Just a few examples of Gorn words follow, mostly to illustrate some of the sounds of Gorn. 'ágghlillw - The Divine Egg. Transliterated as Aglior to those not Gorn savvy. tkhíllh - Female gghùq - Male zzhká' - Child zzhká'tlhíllh - Girl zzhká'gghùq - Boy ghùnnw - Warrior, Military (where the term Gorn in Terran comes from) sízzhdthiCC - Cestus III (this is the closest approximation from the Terran word) A few quick bits about the language and culture of the Gorn: The Gorn are a highly religious people, following a complex and oft confusing (to non-Gorn) religion full of strange dogmas, holidays and rituals. The Gorn language, much like the Gorn himself, is slow and deliberate. Gorn rarely if ever speak bfore thinking, and this leads to an almost total lack of emotion in speech, leading most to believe that the Gorn are a totally emotionless people. Though the Gorn don't entirely understand some Alien (or Mammalian) emotions, they are just as emotional as the next non-Vulcan species. The Gorn language is very malliable, almost any word can be or become a noun, verb, adjective and so on. There are also very few prepositions and grammatical markers, many doubling or tripling up on their meanings. Gorn has, as some species put it, too many pronouns. Examples include standard respect bearing pronouns up to and including pronouns just used with clutch mates and pronouns used when talking to oneself. And that's all I got for now. That and a 65 letter alphabet, though I can't share that until I get to a scanner.

Interesting!! Looking forward to seeing that Gorn alphabet. Will have to investigate Trill in greater depth later - sounds fascinating. I love the idea of discourse particles not used in writing...
