Qatama phonetics
Vowels: a = /a/ o = /o/ u = /u/ ` = /?/ Between vowels and /@/ between consonants Plosives: t = /t/ d = /d/ k = /k/ g = /g/ q = /q/ (or /X/ as a final) Affricates: j = /tS/ or /dZ/ or /Z/ (any of these can be used and there will be no confusion) Nasals: m = /m/ n = /n/ ng = /N/ Trill: r = /r/ or the Approximant /r\/ Fricatives: h = /h/ tl = /t_K/ Approximants: l = /l/ y = /j/ and u = /w/ before /a/ A note: Please understand that, while being precise in regards to pronunciation is important in order to provide a teaching standard, Qatama is very forgiving: People may vary their pronunciations quite a bit and still be easily understood. Correcting others' pronunciation is considered extremely rude.
