Mártölammë
http://www.omniglot.com/writing/martolamme.php http://www.ardrakho.net/Martolamme.html Mártölammë is a fictional language and alphabet invented by Æ Martinez for use in a book he is writing. The book regarding the language and its writing system is the result of thirty years of work and is being published online as PDFs at www.ardrakho.net. After the book is complete it will published in hard copy. Aesthetically not as pleasing as it might be, this script is by far one that has been worked on in detail and the amount of work is slightly staggering. I quite like the overall feel and functionality.

Agreed. Aesthetically - blah, but functionally, very interesting!

I am also impressed (not to say overwhelmed) by the amount of work that has gone into the script and into making it match the conlang it goes with. I also think it is quite functional -- impressively so (though not overwhelmingly so!). As for its esthetics, well, maybe I like it more than anyone else posting on this thread so far. But really, my judgement about esthetics is not strongly felt (by me). I am interested in commenting on the background of the story the conlang and script were meant for. "People lived longer lives but faced a more hostile world"? Both? How does that work? Also; This story looks like chalcolithic period and/or "Copper Age" stuff -- the boundary between the Late Neolithic and the Early Early Bronze Age. The script doesn't really match that period; RealWorld natlangs of that time often were unwritten, and those that were written often had scripts that were more logographic, pictographic, ideographic, hieroglyphic, or what-you-call-it.

Agreed. Aesthetically - blah, but functionally, very interesting! I'll argue the aestheticality point but opinions are opinions. I quite like the script. If it wasn't listed as a con-script I would have thought it was an aux-script; but it lends itself to both roles perfectly.

I quite like the script. If it wasn't listed as a con-script I would have thought it was an aux-script; but it lends itself to both roles perfectly. I prefer it as a conscript though. I've yet to see a fully fleshed out auxscript that wasn't created more than a few decades ago.

Impressive conscript. It is obviously the result of years of work, up to using it for the language's needs. I prefer it as a conscript though. I've yet to see a fully fleshed out auxscript that wasn't created more than a few decades ago. Have you heard about phon? Maybe it's not completely "aestheticaly pleasant"... But it gets the job done. left handed edition? that's curious, even if I'm not left handed myself. btw, what's a pure vowel? Just a single vowel in a syllable? Or just a single sound in a syllable that may or may not be composed of one or more vowels?

eldin raigmore- 08-17-2008

... what's a pure vowel? Just a single vowel in a syllable? Or just a single sound in a syllable that may or may not be composed of one or more vowels?A "pure vowel" is a "monophthong". It's a vowel which doesn't change how close or open, or how front or back, or how rounded or unrounded, (... etc. ...) it is during pronunciation.
