Mars Collision Possible http://www.livescience.com/blogs/author/leonarddavid
I think it would be very neat to witness an asteroid strike Mars, as it would give us the opportunity to learn more about what is directly underneath the surface of Mars, which I think we could discern by examining the dynamics of the impact.

I only skimmed through the article, but is there a potential for any damage to Earth?

Probably not. From what I've read in the past, this asteroid is less than 1/10 th of a mile wide, so while it would suck tremendously to be on Mars that day, it really can't kick up enough large objects to threaten on Earth.

Have they conducted -*test*-('")s or run models to try and preview what the impact will look like?

Well according to current models, it would create a crater about the size of the famous large meteorite crater in Arizona. But it would also help scientists learn more about what's below the surface of Mars.

Whenever I want to see what's in my fridge, I always take my .45 pistol and shoot a hole through the door to look in.

If your fridge was made of dust and you wanted to see what kind of dust, why not?

If your fridge was made of dust and you wanted to see what kind of dust, why not?Actually, this is more like; I've been wondering for years what was in that flowerpot on the windowsill, but I've not been able to go over there and look; then some kid on the street swats a baseball through my window and into the flowerpot, and I look through that hole. Or something.
It's just that I, personally, would prefer to actually go there and open the door and look in. Not that we have that choice.

Not that we have that choice.

Not that we have that choice. You're right; thanks for the correction.

But it's a lot harder to see what's below the surface of Mars than it is to see what's your frig, unless you haven't cleaned it for a while..... ;)
eldin raigmore- 01-08-2008
..., unless you haven't cleaned it for a while..... ;)Exactly. I'm hoping for a meteor to hit it.
qanuk- 01-08-2008
Exactly. I'm hoping for a meteor to hit it.
Well, good luck then lol. :P

Will they televise it?
Hakaku- 01-08-2008
Rather, when's it due to hit or miss?
