Êġarol
Nation: Êġarol /E."J\a.4oK./ or Ďařôl /"dZA.ROl./ Capital: Meraċu /me."4a.cu./ Other Major Cities: Řačêc, Gwarod, Lařôn Map Color: Dark Green Languages: Jarolim- 75%, Řolîm- 25% Flag: Culture overview: Êġarol is made of two closely-related, but different groups. The majority of the population are the Ċarla, while about a quarter of the people are Gwořas. They have differing cultures and the relations between the two are complicated, so I'll describe them seperately. The Ċarla: Ċarla simply means "people." They live in the western part of the country, along the coast and in the forests. They consider themselves logical; higher reasoning and knowledge are seen as a desired trait. They also run the country for the most part. They can be somewhat self-absorbed because of their belief that they're mentally superior to many groups, however they try to be respectful of other people's ideas. However self-centered they may be, they do look outside their borders at other people and cultures, although sometimes just to prove that those people are wrong. When they do make a friend, they are loyal to the end. A Ċarlo can be trusted to any length. Flag of the Ċarla: Gwořas: Gwořas translates roughly to "of the mountains." These rugged people have learned to live in the north and eastern parts of the country, braving the arctic mountains. They are a proud people; they have their own language (sometimes considered a dialect called Řolîm), and they are very religious as well. In making such elaborate temples, they have become skilled in architecture, though they do not focus on any other 'science.' Gwořas are kind and community-minded, but very sheltered and reserved; they will be nice to a stranger, but they will probably not want to get to know him. They revere spiritual strength and enlightenment through medition of oneself. Flag of the Gwořas people: Other general facts: Full name: Adan Êġarolu (Jarolim); Ên Ďařôlu (Řolîm)- Union of Êġarol Population: ~4,000,000 Demographics: ~75% Ċarla, ~25% Gwořas National Colors: Red, blue, yellow, white Currency: êbir (really only used among the Ċarla) Natural resources: timber, fish, herbs, large game Manufactured goods: boats, other wooden goods, medicines Government type: Dual Monarchy Government stability: Seems stable at the moment, but prone to split. Religion: The Ċarla have left religion behind, though a few still adhere to the ancient texts. Gwořas are very religious; it's based on the concept of nothingness (more to come). Climate: Taiga, Tundra Arable Land: ~8% Terrain: Huge ice-covered mountains in the east, barren tundra in the north, boreal forests in the western/central parts, and a few decidious trees in the far south. Government overview: As stated above, Êġarol is a dual monarchy, meaning that there are two royal families; one is Ċarla, the other Gwořas. They rule together from the capital, Meraċu, and each have excessive beauracracies underneath them. The Gwořas king constantly travels in between Meraċu and Řačêc, the Gwořas regional capital. All desicions must be approved by both kings, however in times of dire crisis, the Ċarla king can override the Gwořas. This only happens in extreme circumstances (for the Gwořas would certainly revolt). The kings are seen only as kings, not gods, and are considered equals on a spiritual level. They pass and create all laws, and only widespread rioting throughout the country would change their opinion. Thus, the people have almost no power, however, because of the cultural/moral codes of each ethnicity, there has hardly been an abusive king. Maps: _____________________________________________________________ So, I thought that now I've introduced my nation, I'll introduce myself. Obviously, I'm new here, and well... I thought this seemed to be a really intersting project so I've joined. I'll definitely be updating about Êġarol regularly, and I'm open to any questions/comments about it. Oh, in addition, I'd like it if you also put your nation's attitude to mine. Thanks! :) Edit: The pronunciation of the country keeps coming out wrong in the post. It's supposed to be a voiced palatal plosive (like the Hungarain gy), not /J/

Oh my google! What an interesting choice of placement for your nation. Coupled with your description I'm already envisioning heavily furred, bearded men in sleighs slicing across the icy fields in the dead of night. I can't wait to see more. :) The internal conflict also makes it more interesting. And I'd like to see where this goes when the "world opera" opens. Will they be Soviet Russia, or Modern Sweden? who knows... :) Post a little more, and I'll get the Tekann to hate you (just as much as they tend to despise everyone) in their own unique way. :)

Very nice indeed, I look forward to more. What cultural aspect can we look forward to you expanding on? Do you plan on putting a lang thread in the conlangs section?

Post a little more, and I'll get the Tekann to hate you (just as much as they tend to despise everyone) in their own unique way. :) :P Awesome, a bit of a neighbor! (Everyone else on the north continent has dropped out.) Couple questions: I would assume the dual monarchy is hereditary, but I can't say I'm entirely sure. For the currency, what do the Gwořas use? Is it just a barter economy? What are the names of the monarchs at the time of ? Also, it's interesting to note that the Ċarla people are more concentrated than the Gwořas - they have more people, but equal or less land (can't quite eyeball it).

Do you plan on putting a lang thread in the conlangs section? Yeah, I'll put one up as soon as it gets a little more developed. Couple questions: I would assume the dual monarchy is hereditary, but I can't say I'm entirely sure. For the currency, what do the Gwořas use? Is it just a barter economy? What are the names of the monarchs at the time of ? Also, it's interesting to note that the Ċarla people are more concentrated than the Gwořas - they have more people, but equal or less land (can't quite eyeball it). To answer your questions simply: Yes, the monarchy is hereditary. The Gwořas use a barter system, however in larger cities, the currency can be seen. I haven't figured out the royal families yet (I'll post that in a little while). Yes, the Ċarla are more concentrated. I'm not good at calculating area either, but they have less land and three times the amount of people that the Gwořas do. I haven't quite figured out what impact this will have on their culture other than the Ċarla would probably be a little more social. Physical Features The Ċarla and Gwořas surprisingly, for all their cultural differences, look very similar. Skin tone is very light, as well as their eyes (usually blue or green), however their hair is known for being black. This developed to absorb more heat and make up for their pale complexion. Obviously, this makes people with a tan or blonde hair 'exotic'. Compared to other peoples, they also have flatter faces. The differences between the two groups are small (as stated before), but noticable to the trained eye. The Ċarla have 'finer' features: a smaller nose, mouth, eyes, and a wider forehead. Thus, the Gwořas have larger features, and their eyes are sometimes almond-shaped. MORE CULTURE Clothing: Gwořas: Living in the mountains, the Gwořas must have warm clothing. Many many layers must all be stacked on top of one another to form a good barrier against the winds. Traditional colors are red and white, and a common decoration is/are the circle(s) (which have a religious meaning; explained below). Hats (which will be in a later post) are quite common, and can signify the family or city from which an individual comes. Their clothes are made from the coats of the hardy goat-like creatures, called oipař, they herd throughout the mountains. The red dye come from the few alpine plants whose berries can be crushed into a pigment. Note: This is the best I could do with Paint, so forgive the crappy quality. Men: Women: Ċarla: Yet to be drawn- will be edited in later. Overview of the Relgion of the Gwořas: Ğamai Ideas: Medwê / Balance: "Balance" though not perfect, is the best translation for Medwê. It can be compared to karma, but in a slightly different way. For all positives, there is a negative; for light, darkness; for good, evil; etc. The Nothing has perfect Medwê. Mentô / Infinity: The world and all its holdings are infinite. The self is infinite. The nothing is infinite. Grasping the infinite is part of finding one's nothingness. Dwaiğaď / Contemplation: Dwaiğaď has a deeper meaning than just contemplation. It could also be translated as silence. Through silent meditation one finds the infinity. Lađamê / Nothingness: This is considered the 'great mystery' of Ğamai, and is the closest they get to a 'god.' Nothing in the world, physical or otherwise, is really there; it is nothing. Nothingness is the perfection of the self, and only through finding one's nothingness can one be released from the evils of the physical world. The nothing is omnipresent, but does not exist. The famous line, "Everything is something, yet nothing is something," sums up the ideas of Lađamê.

Yay, someone finally used my paperdolls. I like the clothing, but what is the droopy sash the male figure is wearing? what is it for? I'm still not sure how to put the Tekann perspective of your people into their words, but I will say personally that your people seem to the Mystics to my Tekann Skeksis. :)

Damn, that is the exact area I was using. Guess I should've posted quicker, eh? Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Hi, just wanted to say that I'm still in and not dead. Things have been getting pretty crazy, and I haven't been able to work on Êġarol at all. I don't have anything new yet, but once things calm down, I'll post more. Oh, and I'm sorry 'stealing' your location.
