What diphthongs, triphthongs, tetraphthongs, and longer polyphthongs (weird if there are any longer ones) occur as single phonemes, nuclei of single syllables? Vowel clusters can be up to three moras long (that is, a really long monophthong, a diphthong with a long and a short vowel, or a triphthong with three short vowels). Any combination of vowels up to three moras long can be used. 11. Which, if any, consonants can appear in a syllable onset but cannot appear in a syllable coda? There are no restrictions here (however, words can only start on a plosive and end on a vowel). 12. Which, if any, consonants can appear in a syllable coda but cannot appear in a syllable onset? No restrictions. See 11. 13. What is the maximum number of consecutive consonants that can appear together in the onset of a syllable? 2. There can be at most one consonant in a syllable onset. 14. What is the minimum number of consonants that a syllable onset must contain? 2. There must be at least one consonant in a syllable onset. 15. 'Officially', syllables cannot have consecutive consonants (two consonants in a row would indicate seperate syllables), but syllables can occasionally merge, especially with lenition. When that happens, a fricative and a plosive or two fricatives can be used. 18. Which if any pairs of consecutive consonants can appear together in a syllable onset but cannot appear together in a syllable coda? No two consecutive consonants can exist in the onset or coda. When syllables merge (such as cvvc.cvc becoming cvvccvc), the two consonants in the middle become part of the nucleus. 19. Which if any pairs of consecutive consonants can appear together in a syllable coda but cannot appear together in a syllable onset? None. See 18. 20. Are there any triplets of consecutive consonants which cannot appear together within a single syllable, even though each pair of them can appear together within a single syllable? The only time that I can imagine a cluster of three consonants occurring in Podka is when two syllables merge and a vowel gets dropped. Anyway, I can't think of any restictions. No two plosives can appear consecutively in the same syllable anyway, but they can occurr in a triplet if they are seperated by a fricative. 21. Are there any triplets of consecutive consonants which cannot appear together within a single syllable onset, even though each pair of them can appear together within a single syllable onset? Only one consonant can appear in an onset or coda. 22. Are there any triplets of consecutive consonants which cannot appear together within a single syllable coda, even though each pair of them can appear together within a single syllable coda? See 21.
