Some of you may or may not know that I have been unemployed for the last 4 months, well, all of that is about to change in quite a drastic way. I have been selected for a position overseas. I will likely leave within the next 6 weeks. Between now and then I am likely to not be near as active as I have been, and I have absolutely no idea what my web access will be like when I reach my destination. I will be around occasionally before I leave. fmra has been made co-Admin to help manage things for the duration.

I have absolutely no idea what my web access will be like when I reach my destination. . forget about blogs and forums, they are blocked over there. Bring a digi camera and send pics thru a sat connection, since the blocks aren't as pervasive. If your attached to mercs, then you have more freedom than one would expect... also the jobs are better as well as the pay. I aint sure, but I'd say that Blackwater pays better than Halliburton nowadays. But if your a typical groundpounder for the DoD, then your liberties will be highly curtailed. And you will probably be totally stuck inside the greenbelt getting pummled by mortars and rocketfire. So either way? life will be interesting.

Trust me, there are ways around the simple orders of superiors, and the NOQ boys finding the sites you go to and then blocking them... but I know your a smart guy and you can be creative The main issue with the heavy handed censorship are the kids back there needing to talk to home about the shit they go thru everyday, and they aren't allowed to talk it out. There is a lot of angst, anger and fear about "Who's next" & "who's time it is." But remember, your job aint about being on the front lines and hearing your Sup telling you to kill them all, even though all you see are women & children...and you can't tell your family how shitty you feel after you see the blood on your hands... Nah, you mentioned your gonna be in translations/Intel.. so your stuff is more fun... But like I said, your a smart person...the NOQ blocks & overt censorship can be gotten around I needn't say much more: But I will tell ya to make sure ya get your ass back here in 1 peice... ya hear!

doc, I think you have me confused with someone else. I'm not going to prison. I'm not going to be in a concentration camp. Also, as a civilian, I do get more freedom than the soldiers, airmen and marines. Lastly, I'm not sure where you got the idea of mercs, but you need to put down the SOF mags.

Oh no, you'd be very suprised how many are there... and I agree the SOF mags are well.. to a tiny point correct, but paint a wrong picture of what the hell is going on over there... But I do agree with ya, the guys who read the SOF mags and think it's great over there in the hell that Bagdad has become is totally living in a drug hazed fantasy that will get them killed.. sooner or later. as far as you being a civi, good that you have the freedom the DoD boys don't have, so hopefully it's a VERY short stay for ya. But like I said.. get your ass back here in 1 peice ....
