A font, useful for blockscripts My lang Taalen uses something VERY similar to the Qatama block syllabary, as well as some others here. I created a font to put stuff together myself, but I figured it might be handy for you all. PM me with an email addy, and I'll send it to you.
I have no idea how to include samples at this point. Perhaps someone could get the font, make some samples, and post them? Or educate a guy without a website how?
Simply described, draw a 1x3 rectangle on graph paper. Now put two lines in the middle - you've got what looks like 3 boxes stacked. The font assigns all possible vertical lines with vowels and numbers, and all possible horizontal lines with consonants. A box could be typed as "ala", where the "a"s are full vertical lines, and the "l" is a line on the top and bottom rows.

Welcome Dauyn, I'm glad you finally decided to join...I'd love to see the font, and perhaps you could direct us as to how you made it...with what program/software and where we too might be able to download it.
Again, welcome.

Thanks, Sano! Good to be here. :)
Can't say where to download it, because I don't have anywhere to host it. You'll have to PM me with an email. But I did figure out how to do a sample:
Qatama at the bottom was created by typing "abdiba alunn ellka".
What I'd really like to do is create a transcriber, but it's a bit beyond me at the moment.

Well, my e-mail is in the above post..and if you send it to me I can host it on my googlepages.
Nice sample.
What script is Qatama written in?
Do you have a map for it?
Dauyn- 01-13-2008
Qatama is in forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=177>this syllabary. Uyata is VERY similar to the Taalen blockscript, turned on its side. Great minds think alike... :) I'll post something on it in a bit.
The keymap (link at the bottom of the page) has the map. I think. I'm not sure what map you want.
Using the font, you can do any of the glyphs on the link above, uyata (though on it's side), and other scripts like that.
Sano- 01-13-2008
Oh...that script...I had actually forgotten all about it.
Dauyn- 01-13-2008
I just picked one at random. :)
In the Uyata, here's how you'd type Qatama: ola wmi ino
If you've got the font installed, type that, then tilt your head to the left, or rotate the text clockwise 90 degrees. Tadah!
In Taalen, the three glyphs are variants of /D h S/ respectively. The uyata glyph 'kyo' (type "akw") is the Taalen glyph 'da' or 'ta' depending on which way is considered up.
Sano- 01-13-2008
That is amazing.
Now, if you wanted to, you could actually make a font just using the 68 Uyata glyphs, right?
Would you be willing to do that?
Dauyn- 01-13-2008
Send me a keymap, and I'll give it a shot. That is, tell me what glyphs should go with what keys. an updated list of glyphs is good too, as well as any other glyphs, numbers, punctuation, etc. How big should the space be?
Give me all the detail you can think of.
Dauyn- 02-15-2008
Just a bump and reminder, Sano - if you'd like an Uyata font, I'm happy to give it a shot. Just get me details.

After several days of consideration, I decided that a font for Uyata might be the equivalent of a third arm, kinda neat and worth mentioning, but not extremely necessary.
Dauyn- 02-15-2008
Understood. And since you can get there quickly with the blockscript font I made, or even just by hand in a graphics app, I can see why it's not really needed.

I would however love a font for Moj.
I'll display the pertinent info this Saturday as I am away from my home PC.
